ABOUT THE PROJECT
I’ll admit I got a little over my head on this project, but I’m slowly getting everything together (hah). I ended up needing a backup solution for my websites hosted on a VPS along with any other content. I currently already utilize Amazon’s Web Services for weekly backups, but I wanted to go a step further and check out the server scene. With this, came the headache of my summer of 2016…
Introducing the HP DL180SE G6. I ended up getting a fairly good deal on this, but ended up having a few leaps along the road that needed to be taken care. This included things like: finding the correct raid card to see all the HDDs correctly for ZFS and other software raid solutions, researching storage platforms, networking, VPN, KVM, and more. I obviously bit off a little more than I could chew with this one.
I obviously spent a little more time than I’m willing to admit trouble shooting and researching solutions, but I do believe its time well spent.
